Notice of Certified Letter

Yes, I received from the US Postal Service today notice of a certified letter from MRC waiting for me to pick up on Monday.

This is notification to all property owners abutting Manchaug Pond and those with water rights, that the dam owner has filed a Notice of Intent with the Douglas Conservation Commission (DCC) of their revised Operation and Maintenance Plan for Manchaug Pond dam. A public hearing will be held allowing you to hear about the plan and again ask questions and present your concerns.

Friday night, May 1, I checked out the DCC website to find that Manchaug Pond and the dam owner, Manchaug Reservoir Corp at Interface, is on the agenda for Monday, May 18th at 8:30 p.m.

You'll notice Whitin's NOI was available on the DCC website but Manchaug's wasn't. I'll keep you posted when I get details.... and I'll see you there.

Also you'll notice Whitin Reservoir is listed on the agenda for June 1st - that's the continuation requested by their dam owner, MRRC and the Whitin Reservoir Watershed District.

  1. Thank you for keeping us informed of all the goings on up there. I guess this means the water level for this summer is still in question? I was hoping when the boards were put in we would be o.k. this year.

  2. NY Camper, Thanks for checking in!

The involvement of the Douglas Conservation Commission is a very positive development for Manchaug Pond.
A considerable portion of the lake is part of the town of Douglas and although the flashboards are in, DCC has a right to know the intent of the dam owner with regards to the the wetlands, shoreline bank and the tributaries in their town.

The Conservation Commissions are charged with enforcement of the Wetlands Protection Act. Protectors of lakes, rivers and wetlands in the Commonwealth.

Earlier this spring and again at the DEP site evaluation held last month, Douglas Commissioners saw the negative impacts of the present waterlevel and are responding. This is a very positive move for us and the lake.

  3. AS A SIX MONTH RESIDENT AND SOMEWHAT OF A NATURALIST, IT WAS HEARTWARMING TO SEE THAT THE BOARDS WERE FINALLY INSTALLED ALLOWING SOME OF THE SPRING RAIN TO GATHER.

READING THE BLOG DAILY FROM FLORIDA WAS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THE ASSOCIATION'S EFFORTS ARE APPRECIATED BY ALL.

CAN SEASONAL RESIDENTS ATTEND MEETINGS TOO?
