Wouldn't it be nice if the owner would also concrete over that side of the dam...then if the dam was topped by flood waters, it wouldn't crumble. What a cheap and sensible fix that would be!
The Board of Directors and members of the MPA and others who enjoy the lake and use Torrey Road are very appreciative of the dam owner's maintenance of the dam. Keeping the earthen face clear of trees and shrubs is extremely important as is annual repointing of the stone face and the daily inspection for animal activity, monitoring of weather and the waterlevel, etc.
Also notable is Manchaug Pond's safe history, bringing us through many a hurricane and storm. Never has there been an episode of overtopping: partially due to a well-maintained, sturdy structure and to the 24/7 dedication and knowledge of the dam caretakers.
Thank Goodness ...

ReplyDeleteIf it was so simple and cheap why wouldn't the landowners pay for it?
